Originally built in the 1960's, Salem Square includes 92 one, two, and three bedroom units arranged around two spacious courtyards. Including both a pool and club house, our community is adorned with beautiful landscaping and lots of old growth trees offering abundant shade during the summer months. And talk about location? And you'll only be a couple of minutes from banking, Kroger's, and more shopping than you can handle in a single day. If you like to golf, we're a block from a great public course, and for swimmers there's the Louisville Aquatic Center. Check out our amenities for more information.

A Photo Tour of Salem Square
Written by resident Geoff Baker

Besides the location, one of the main reasons our neighbors choose Salem Square as the place where they want to make their home is the natural environment that surrounds and threads through our entire community. Often times I make it a point to park near the northeast corner of our community, just around the corner from where Gray Lane intersects with Miller Run. Because once in a while I enjoy taking a stroll through the grounds.

Typically, I begin my tour by glancing down Miller Run where I live, then continuing my journey by cutting between G on my left and F buildings on my right, an experience that's kind of like entering a secluded alley that spills into a world completely removed from the hurly-burly of our everyday, rush hour lives.

Beginning in late April or early May and continuing pretty much through late summer, my path through the south courtyard demands that I stop and admire the beautiful landscaping with its old growth trees that include a variety of Oak and Maple that filter the late afternoon sunlight with just enough protection for the smaller flowering shrubs and trees.

Crossing the main thoroughfare that divides the south and north courtyards before branching off in opposite directions at our pool and party-house, I'm met by a small group of ladies attempting to untangle the ropes of their tent before setting off on a week-end camping trip. But after a few moments of catching up on what's happening around the Square, I'm off again.
Entering the north courtyard is like heading into a small forest, shady but not in any way oppressive.

Preparing to cut between H and E buildings, I'm drawn to look east along the rear of E building, with a view of its lower terrace homes, always cool and inviting during our Louisville summers yet cozy warm on the cruelest winter night.

Nearing the east end of the courtyard, I turn to enjoy a last look at that beautiful old Japanese Maple. And I'm struck here, too, by the ethereal-like appeal of the lower terrace apartments in this courtyard. They remind me of something one might see in Southern Living. And why not? Louisville is, after all, occasionally referred to as the Gateway to the South.

Heading for home, I decide to check out the pool but no one's there. Too hot? Not for me. I think I'll grab my bathing trunks and head back for a dip before supper. Someone's sure to show up by then. But then I remember: no some folks have to work for a living. In fact, most folks. Still, the pool is open in the evenings, too. Maybe then.

One of the neatest things about having a condo here in the square is having the availability of a facility like our party house. Whether for birthday celebrations, meetings, or even small wedding receptions, you name it, it's a convenience many of us here enjoy.
Well, that's about it for the tour. If you're looking for a great value in a desirable location, check with your realtor to see if any of our properties are listed. They'll have lots more interior photos that show specific details of homes that from time to time come on the market.
Oh, and one last thing. My wife and I bought here because we both felt that Salem Square was the best value for us. And in reviewing the covenants it appeared our investment would be well protected. We've never regretted our decision. Salem Square is well run and absolutely a great place to live!
